  • Jorge Cerqueira is a renowned visual artist born in Rio de Janeiro. He began his artistic education at the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage in 1979, completing his studies in 1984. Throughout his career, Jorge has been deeply engaged with major artistic movements, significantly shaping his artistic journey.

    After concluding his formal education, he further honed his skills through courses at the Museum of Modern Art and workshops at Dynamics Encounters in New York, USA. His time in New York was marked by visits to various studios, museums, and classes with esteemed Brazilian artists. Additionally, Jorge was an integral part of the Delito engravers group at the School of Visual Arts in Rio de Janeiro.

    Jorge Cerqueira has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in both national and international shows. He has been selected for prestigious art salons and his works are featured in key collections, including the Municipal Museum of Art in Curitiba, the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), and the Museum of Traditional and Religious Art at the Convento Nossa Senhora dos Anjos in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro.

    In his creative process, Jorge allows the artwork to guide him, seeking its inherent direction. He views the flow of work as a positive sign but acknowledges the moments of creative blockage. Despite these challenges, he continually seeks intuitive truth in his artistic path.

    Jorge maintains a studio equipped with all the necessary materials for his individual research. Here, he works with engravings, gouache, paintings, and objects, dedicating hours to drawing on various types of paper, which fuels his broader work. Painting is his life's sustenance and primary mode of communication through art.

    With his passion for art and extensive career, Jorge Cerqueira has established himself as a significant figure in Brazilian visual arts and has left an indelible mark on contemporary art.
