CATRINA AZUL
CATRINA AZUL
A calavera face rendered entirely in blues — turquoise, cobalt, near-white — its features traced with the dotted and floral ornament of the Day of the Dead Catrina. Soriano's watercolor-and-digital surface reads like light through water, the skull emerging from a field of ripples and spirals rather than sitting on top of it. The title CATRINA AZUL cools Mexico's most familiar emblem of mortality to a single hue.

About Jonas Soriano
-
Jonas Soriano
Jonas Soriano is a visual artist based in Mexico City who works between watercolor and digital finishing, arriving at airbrushed surfaces where line dissolves into glow.
His subjects are drawn from Mexican iconography — the calavera, the Catrina, the hidden mask, the jungle cat — each rendered in a near single-hue palette that turns a familiar emblem spectral.
Latin America Gallery represents three unique works from his 2018 series.
